This introductory Certificate in CBT Skills has been developed to meet the needs of those who may, or may not, have prior experience of CBT but who wish to discover what this approach entails. This Course will give participants a solid introduction to some of the fundamental principles and skills that characterise CBT. It will also enable individuals to make an informed decision about whether to pursue further training, including applying for one of our post-graduate diplomas.

The Course provides access to members of our training team who can provide information on the range of training programmes offered by The Central London CBT Centre as well as guidance on eligibility for these trainings.

Aims and Content of the Programme

  • CBT interviewing skills
  • Identifying and monitoring thoughts and behaviours
  • Testing automatic thoughts and techniques for cognitive restructuring
  • Working with behavioural methods

At the end of the Programme candidates can expect to be able to:

  1. Construct maintenance cycles of presenting problems;
  2. Identify, monitor and test negative automatic thoughts
  3. Identify, monitor and modify unhelpful behaviours
  4. Have an understanding of guided discovery
  5. Understand and describe the application of CBT to treating anxiety
  6. Understand and describe the application of CBT to treating anxiety depression.

On completion of the Course, individuals will be awarded with a Certificate of Completion from the Central London CBT Training Centre.

The workshops are delivered by members of the Central London CBT Centre, all of whom are accredited CBT therapists.

There are no summative assignments. However, on completion of the Course, candidates will be able to satisfy themselves that they have achieved the learning outcomes and consolidated their understanding by completing a short multiple choice questionnaire.

In order to enable candidates to capitalise on the learning opportunities provided there is a strong emphasis on experiential learning. Learning through active participation during the workshops is strongly encouraged. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate an ability to engage in self-directed learning as evidenced by their active participation in small and large group discussions, and a willingness to share their prior experiences and learning, and an ability to set personal and professional goals for enhancing their experience of the training. Attendees will also be guided towards relevant reading.

This Course will be ideal for anyone wishing to learn more about the theory and practice of CBT. It will be of benefit to individuals who have trained in other models of psychotherapy, who would like an introduction to working in a CBT-focused way and who seek to establish whether or not to invest in a more in-depth CBT training.

It is not essential for individuals to have any prior knowledge or experience of CBT. However, it is essential that candidates have prior experience of working with clients in a caring role – professional or voluntary.

The cost of the Course is £750.00
